SAS Resources Fund Melbourne Gala Dinner - Friday, 17 May 2024
The Special Air Service Resources Fund Gala Dinner returned to Melbourne with much anticipation and a sell-out crowd at the prestigious Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
It was a night to remember as guests started the evening with drinks in the hallowed Long Room before moving into the Members' Dining Room for a 3-course dinner and first-class entertainment hosted by the wonderful Mark Beretta.
Dining on the finest local produce, guests heard from SAS Resources Fund Chairman, Grant (Wally) Walsh CSM and Commander SASR about the vital role that the Fund plays within the SASR community and how that support offers peace of mind to those currently serving so that they can continue to put their lives on the line to protect our nation.
Guest speaker Major Stuart 'Buster' Brown reflected on the 25th Anniversary of the Regiment's Commitment to East Timor and provided incredible insight by sharing his personal experience of serving in the region. Followed by the evening's Beneficiary Speaker, Major Angela Uphill, who had the crowd on their feet in awe of her courage and resilience and brought home how life changing SAS Resources Fund support can be when faced with the toughest challenges imaginable.
Guests were then treated to rare moments of candor from a panel of beloved Australian sporting stars who, inspired by our guest speakers, shared personal stories of mateship, teamwork and perseverance. A special thanks to our MC Mark Beretta for chairing the discussion and our panelists Michael Malthouse, Sharelle McMahon, Sarah Rowe, Guy Mckenna and Nick Maxwell for their time and openness.
A huge thank you to the incredibly talented Australian Army Band Melbourne for their invaluable support of the evening, our Auctioneer Mr Campbell Moore, and the Ukrainian Ambassador His Excellency, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, for taking the opportunity to address the room.
We are incredibly grateful to all attendees, supporters and sponsors of the event who made the night the great success that it was.
